In 2012, Her Majesty The Queen will become the second Monarch in British history to celebrate sixty years on the throne. As part of these celebrations, a series of beacons will be lit across the UK. In 2002, over 1,800 beacons were lit to mark The Queen's Golden Jubilee and in 2012, the plan is to have even more (with 2,012 being lit) and Her Majesty lighting the National Beacon.
To date, across the Winchester district three beacons will be lit at Fort Nelson, The Church Green in Kings Worthy and in Hursley on Monday 4 June.
To find out more about marking the occasion by lighting beacon in your locality please see a pdf of the guide here.
